Westhill's Football Team In Stamford Looks Good, Thanks To Alum At Nike

STAMFORD, Conn. -- No matter what happens on the field this season, Westhill High School’s football team is bound to look good.

Nike has provided new uniforms for the Westhill High School football team in Stamford, courtesy of CEO Mark Parker, a graduate of the school.

The team is wearing uniforms donated by Nike and Westhill High grad Mark Parker. He is the CEO of Nike, and Chairman Phil Knight has recommended that Parker succeed him as the sportswear Goliath’s chairman.

Parker is a 1973 graduate of Westhill, where he was a long distance runner.

The Vikings received 80 home-and-away uniforms, each worth about $409. Coach Frank Marcucio contacted Parker about to see if he could offer any support for the team. Minutes later, the Vikings were getting new uniforms.

Parker has been with Nike since 1979. He graduated from Penn State and joined Nike as a footwear designer. He became Division Vice President in charge of development in 1987 and steadily climbed the corporate ladder before becoming CEO in 2006.

Westhill looked good on the field as well in its season opener. The Vikings whacked Bridgeport Central, 27-6, as quarterback Blake Newcomer threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns.

The Vikings return to the field Sept. 25 at Trumbull. The Vikings finished 3-8 last year after going 6-5 in 2013.
