Howlett won the 2-mile in 10:48.16, outdistancing the pack by a comfortable 14 seconds. In the mile, Howlett finished second in 5:04.33. Denise Branch won the race in 5:03.17.
Howlett, who announced in the fall that she will attend Stanford University, has the top time in the 2-mile in the country so far in the young indoor track season. Her 1-mile team is fifth in the nation, according to MileSplit.com.
The Bishop Loughlin Games, which are run at The Armory, are the oldest and largest high school indoor meet in the country. Athletes from the Eastern Seaboard compete in the meet.
In the final high school cross country rankings for fall, Howlett was ranked 28th in the country by RunnerSpace.com. The website released its rankings on Saturday. Staples’ sophomore Hannah DeBalsi was ranked seventh in the country. Howlett was ranked third among girls from New England states.
