Westhill Hands Staples Stunning Soccer Loss

STAMFORD, Conn. – Westhill’s boys soccer team sent a shock wave through the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over three-time defending champion Staples.

David Quito scored 36 seconds into the game to spark the Vikings (7-5-2). Mateo Gallego scored in the ninth minute and Quinto added a second goal in the 56th minute.

Three of Westhill’s losses were forfeits for using ineligible players. Since then, the Vikings have gone 7-0-2 to announce themselves as potential title contenders.

Westhill is currently tied for seventh in the race for one of the eight league playoff berths. The Vikings have two games left, against Harding and Fairfield Warde.

The shutout was the fourth of the season for Westhill, which has allowed just one goal in five other games.
