STAMFORD, Conn. Tough defense and accurate free-throw shooting helped the Westhill girls basketball team to open an early lead on city rival Stamford High. And Westhill held on for a 47-39 victory Tuesday night.
With the win, the Vikings go to 8-5 (7-4) and improve their position for a conference playoff spot. It had entered the night in a three-way tie for the final two positions. Stamford drops to 7-6 (7-4) and out of the fifth spot for the conference tournament as the season enters the final stretch.
Both teams will return to action Friday with Westhill hosting Greenwich at 5:45 p.m. and the Black Knights making the trek to Danbury to take on the Hatters at 5:45 p.m.
