Westhill Gears Up To Defend Softball Crown

The Westhill High School softball team gets ready to open its season as the defending Class LL champions when it plays Norwalk on Thursday at Ray Barry Field. Last year, the Vikings won their first state title in 18 years, but coach Tom Pia has lost Jen Joseph and Julianne Vincent from that squad.

Still, the Vikings have a strong returning cast, including pitcher Allison Macari, second baseman Brittany Horn and left fielder Eileen Tublin.

Westhill plays at Masuk on Thursday and has its home opener Friday. The Vikings also host Trinity Catholic on Saturday at 2 p.m. Westhill tuned up for its opener by playing in jamborees Saturday in Bethel and Sunday in Milford. Westhill's complete schedule is available on the CASCIAC website.
