Walters Returns, Lifts Westhill Boys Into First

STAMFORD, Conn. – The Westhill High boys basketball team is suddenly in first place. After a slightly rocky start to the season that included a forfeit due to an ineligible player, the Vikings have now won five of their last six. Chris Walters came back from injury after missing five games to lift Westhill to a 61-43 win over Greenwich and into first place in the conference's West Division.

Westhill went on a 10-1 run to open the second quarter and never looked back. Walters led the Vikings in the road game with a game-high 21 points.

The Vikings also benefited from poor Greenwich shooting and from one of the Cardinals’ leading scorers, Alex McMurray, fouling out. The Cardinals were a less than stellar 16-for-27 from the free throw line.

Tony Dobbinson added 10 points for the Vikings, but was kept quiet for most of the night. Samuel Dorissiant was second leading scoring for Westhill with 11 points.

Winners of four in a row, the Vikings (8-4, 7-3 conference) will try to maintain their hold on first place when they travel to divisional rival Danbury on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
