U-13 Soccer Hurricanes Split Two Games

Over a busy, hard-fought weekend, the Stamford Hurricanes Boys U13 Gold team earned mixed results.

In Connecticut Cup play, Stamford advanced over Westport White 1 in dramatic fashion. Westport went up 1-0 midway through the second half. With just seconds remaining in regulation time, Matt Rutherford put one in for Stamford, assisted by Juan Medina.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game was decided by penalty kicks. Tied at 2-2 after the first five shots (Angel Uribe and Joe Magnifico scored for Stamford and goalkeeper Justin Wexler denied two of Weston's shots), the teams moved into sudden death kicks. Weston's sixth shot went wide. Stamford's Matthew Alswanger responded with a shot to the low left corner, clinching the victory for the Hurricanes. Also contributing to the win were Jason Alvarez, Jorge Cordova, Julian Gallego, Will Hallett, Darin Harper, Brandon Hoak, Ben Joseph, Mikolaj Musial, Benjy Robinov, Liam Shanahan and Uriy Yosypiv. Stamford meets Shelton in the next round of play.

In South West District CJSA league play, Stamford lost 1-0 in a tough battle against a strong Weston team. Wexler and Hallett combined in goal for a total of eight saves. Strong defense was also played by Magnifico, Alswanger, Alvarez, Hoak and Shanahan.
