Stamford's Arena Gymnastics Wins State Level 5 Team Title

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford’s Arena Gymnastics won the USA Gymnastics Level 5 Connecticut State Team championships last weekend at Killingly High School in Dayville.

 Arena posted 182.775, while American Gymnastics from Plantsville and Dunne’s Gymnastics from Hebron tied for 2nd place, both scoring 181.90.

Leading the Arena team was 11 year old Bailey Petrizzi of Stamford. Bailey finished first All Around (36.8) first on Floor (9.525) 1st beam (9.45) and first on bars (9.075). Teammate Emmie Thaw of Westport finished 2nd AA (36.425) 2nd on bars (8.95) 3rd on vault, floor and beam (9.25, 9.225 and 9.0). Stamford’s Lindsay Hodges rounded out the Arena sweep of the 11 year old age group finishing third all around with a score of 35.675. Hodges also won silver medals both beam (9.3) and floor (9.25).

In the 11 1/2 year old age group, Arena’s Maggie McKenzie, of Cos Cob, won floor (9.05) and finished 3rd on beam and 6th all around.

The 12 year old age group saw Arena gymnast, Nicole Thompson of Riverside, finish second all around (36.225), first on bars (9.15), second on beam (9.2) and fourth on floor (9.10). Lindsey Muldoon, of Greenwich, finished 3rd all around (36.05) 1st on floor 9.325, 2nd bars (9.1) and 3rd on beam (9.025)

Darien’s Devan Grills, 10, sealed the team victory for Arena. The only Arena gymnast competing in the second session of competition, Grills finished third all around (36.425), 3rd on floor (9.2), 4th on beam (9.125) and fourth on bars (9.1), and counted for the team (top 5 scores) on every event.

Arena’s Level 4 Team finished second at the USA Gymnastic State Championships, scoring 187.15. Connecticut Gymnastics Academy of Wallingford won with 187.825, and Gymnastics Revolution of Danbury finished 3rd with 183.375.

Stamford’s Anaya Brown won the youngest 10 year old age group with 37.175. Brown also won floor (9.55) and beam (9.45), finished 3rd on vault (9.175) and 4th on bars (9.0). Westport’s Victoria Fidalgo won bars (9.2) and finished 2nd on floor (9.25) and 7th all around (35.475).

In the older 10 year old age group, Arena gymnasts swept the all around with Devon O’Donnell, of Rye, NY, finishing 1st (37.75), O’Donnell also won Floor (9.55), bars & vault with 9.35 on both events and finished 2nd on beam with a 9.5. Teammate Ellison Weiner of Weston finished 2nd all around (36.675) placing 1st on beam (9.525) 2nd on floor (9.525) and 3rd on vault (9.075). Francie Mckenzie of Cos Cob finished 3rd AA (36.20) and 3rd on both floor and bars (9.5 and 9.175). Natalie Penman of New Canaan finished 4th on floor (9.375) and 7th on bars (9.05).

Arena’s Taylor Worman, 12, of Rye, NY won her age group with 37.375, also taking 1st place on bars, beam & vault (9.45, 9.4 and 9.175) and finished 2nd on floor (9.35)

Sierra Wood of New Canaan, finished 2nd all around for 11 year olds scoring 36.35. Wood won beam with 9.425 and finished 3rd on vault (9.025) 4th bars (8.85) and 5th floor (9.05). Larrabee Pollack of Greenwich finished 3rd on floor (9.2).

Arena’s Mia Kirkorsky, 9, of Westport won balance beam with a (9.475) and finished 3rd on floor (9.375). Stamford’s Delaney Marsh finished 5th all around (35.95) in the 9 year old age group, placing 2nd on bars (9.3) 6th on floor (9.125) and 7thon beam (9.075).
