Stamford Yacht Club Salutes Vineyard Winners

STAMFORD, Conn. — Christopher Dragon and Kyrie emerged as the top winners in the 78th running of the Vineyard Race hosted by the Stamford Yacht Club.

Christopher Dragon, sailed by Andrew Weiss of Larchmont Yacht Club and Storm Trysail Club, was the winner of the IRC handicap class for the 238-mile Vineyard Race. Storm Trysail is also located in Larchmont, N.Y.

Kyrie, sailed by John DiMatteo of Centerport Yacht Club, was the top corrected finisher in the PHRF handicap class on the Vineyard course.

The owners of both boats were honored Sunday evening at the Stamford Yacht Club. 

In addition, Ptarmigan, Larry Dickie’s Ker 43 out of Riverside Yacht Club and Storm Trysail, was named winner of the 2012 Northern Ocean Racing Trophy for its performance in the IRC class over the summer in the Block Island Race, Bermuda Race and Vineyard Race. Kyrie was named winner of the New England Lighthouse Series for its comparable performance in the PHRF class.

Other winners included Pegasus and Morning Glory. Pegasus, sailed by Austin Royle of Wilton, was top finisher in the Cornfield Point course sailed within Long Island Sound and Morning Glory, sailed by Carl Olsson of Larchmont Yacht Club, had the best corrected time on the Seaflower Reef course.
