Stamford Teams Begin Playoff March

Stamford High's baseball and softball teams open state tournament competition Tuesday while Westhill's Dillin Smith takes his mantle as the county's fastest man to the Class LL track and field championships.

Stamford opens the Class LL tournament against Brien McMahon in Norwalk at 7 p.m. Stamford is seeded 30th, while the Senators come in as the No. 3 seed. Stamford's softball team hosts Shelton at 4 p.m. in the first round of the Class LL tournament. The Black Knights are seeded 12th, while Shelton is seeded 21st. Westhill, the tournament's top seed, begins action on Wednesday.

At the Class LL track and field championships, Smith comes in as the No. 5 seed in the 100 meter dash. The senior won the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship last week. He is seeded first in the 200. Rafael Bello, a sophomore, is seeded 11th in the high jump, and Joel Corral is seeded ninth in the triple jump. Nicole Ambrosecchio of Westhill is seeded ninth in the 1,600 and 14th in the 3,200.
