STAMFORD, Conn. Greenwichs Natalie Grainger will keep a close eye on this weekends U.S. National Team Trials at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford. The player who emerges with the fourth spot on the team will be her teammate.
Grainger,the squash director at the new Stamford all-sports facility, already has been named to the womens national team. She will play in the No. 1 position for the U.S. in the World Team Championships in France from Nov. 12-17.
Grainger is a five-time national champion and has won 23 squash tour titles. She will keep a close eye on this weekends tournament, where four players will compete to secure the fourth spot on the American team.
Among the players seeking to join Grainger on the team is Cece Cortes, who recently was named as the squash touring pro for Chelsea Piers Connecticut. Cortes helped Harvard win the national championship earlier this year.
Grainger also has added John Burke, Karim Yehia, Olivia Batchford and Supreet Singh to her coaching staff at the club, which is one of the few facilities in Fairfield County to offer extensive squash instruction and competition.
The opportunity presented to me to work on the construction of a dream squash facility that will help grow the game throughout the region, giving access to schools, junior players, adult programming and national and international tournaments has been a thrilling experience, Grainger said.
