Stamford Senior Legion's Cinderella Run Continues

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Stamford Senior Legion's Cinderella story refuses to end. Ranked 30th in the state tournament, Post 3 has ridden a late-season hot streak all the way to the winners bracket final on Tuesday against none other than Fairfield County rival Norwalk.

Stamford got there courtesy of a 10-4 dismantling of five-seed Greenwich on Monday evening at Palmer Field in Middletown. The game started after a two-hour rain delay.

With the game tied at 4-all, Greenwich collapsed in the fourth inning, walking in two runners with the bases loaded and allowing another to score on an error. Dan White's RBI single gave Stamford the lead they would never relinquish. White also hit a two-run single in the third to put Stamford up 4-3.

Stamford and Norwalk, which defeated Trumbull, 5-2, on Monday, are both 4-0 in double-elimination play. Stamford is 6-0 overall in the postseason, having had two "play-in" games due to its low ranking. The victor in Tuesday night's winners bracket final earns a spot in the Connecticut American Legion state championship game Friday.
