The Joe "Junie" DeLeo Scholarship honors the longtime resident and local baseball legend who recently celebrated his 50th year helping kids play youth baseball in Stamford. DeLeo, a standout left-handed pitcher for Stamford High School and the local American Legion teams in the 1950s, has coached or managed his Clairol Little League team to 17 league championships since 1967.
All money received will help fund an annual scholarship for a local high school senior who is a graduate of Stamford North, Springdale or North Stamford Little League, and has been accepted to an accredited college, university or technical school for the upcoming fall.
The league hopes to offer at least one scholarship annually for the next decade, starting this spring.
A tax-deductible donation can be made at https://tinyurl.com/juniedeleo. More information on the scholarship is available on the Stamford North Little League website.
