STAMFORD, Conn. Stamford High running back Cameron Webb wanted to give a performance that would honor Marcus Dixon, the former Black Knight player who died in a tragic shooting last week. Friday, Webb did just that against Norwalk High.
Webb rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass all in the first half to lead Stamford to a 48-6 win over the Bears at Boyle Stadium. Fans and players held a moment of silence for Dixon before the game, and Webb then went out and delivered a Dixon-worthy performance.
Marcus was definitely on my mind, said Webb, a junior. I trained with Marcus. I was thinking about him a lot tonight.
Webb set the tone from the first play, when he rushed for 12 yards and a first down. Three plays later, he burst through a gaping hole on the right side and sprinted 39 yards for his first touchdown.
He added an 11-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and caught a well-designed screen pass for a 28-yard score to make it 34-0 late in the half.
Marcus always had this chiseled physique, and the kids always admired that about him, coach Bryan Hochter said. Cameron and Marcus worked out a lot over the summer. Cameron wants to be the best, and I think it gave him a lot of motivation. I think this game meant a lot to him in memory of Marcus.
Webb and quarterback Tyler Kane were Stamfords big weapons on Friday. Kane completed 7 of 12 passes for 83 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 84 yards on five carries.
Norwalk defeated Stamford last season, and the Black Knights remembered.
Weve been waiting 365 days for this, Hochter said. They really bought into that and were ready for this one.
