Stamford Football Slams St. Joseph, 34-0

STAMFORD, Conn. – After two straight losses, the Stamford High football team found itself in a must-win game if it wanted to keep its postseason hopes alive. It was mission accomplished as the Black Knights thrashed St. Joseph, 34-0, on Thursday night at home.

“We told them to play with a sense of urgency,” said Bryan Hocter, Stamford’s head coach.

After a scoreless first quarter, Stamford’s senior quarterback Bryan Boderick became a human highlight reel, repeatedly slipping through the Cadets defense and leading his team to its second win of the year. He completed eight passes for 120 yards and added 168 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.

“He is now playing the way we need him to,” Hocter said.

Boderick said that during practice his coaches have urged him to be more aggressive on the ground and take the ball at the defense. He certainly did that in the second quarter, when he took a bootleg 45 yards and into the end zone for the game’s first score.

After that, the floodgates opened as Chandler Foster pounded in Stamford’s second score from the 1-yard-line to give his team a 14-0 lead at the end of the first half. The players picked up where they left off in the second half, adding three more touchdowns and putting the game out of reach.

The Black Knight defense stymied the Cadets and kept them from scoring. Hocter complimented the defense, knowing how hard it is to shut out any team in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Stamford improved its record to 2-2 and will host city rival Trinity Catholic at home on Oct. 14. The Cadets remain winless and will try for their first victory when they visit Harding on Oct. 15.
