Stamford Dad Captures Babe Ruth Drama

Phil DelMazio was one of many parents that traveled with the Stamford 15u Babe Ruth team to Quincy, Mass., for the New England Regional finals.  DelMazio brought along his 35mm still camera to capture the game action, but decided to take some video in the first game of the Regionals when the game went into extra innings.

"I did it mostly because my son [Greg] was on base as the winning run," DelMazio said.  "Then Jeff Cortese had a great hit to win the game."

So when Stamford had a chance to win the game in dramatic fashion for a second time, DelMazio pulled out his video camera once more.  Stamford walked off again with a remarkable win.  The superstition stuck quickly, and lo and behold, DelMazio had the camera rolling in the bottom the eighth of the Regional Championship game when Jeff Cortese came through once more to send the team to the Babe Ruth World Series.

"All I know is in the bottom of any late inning I'm going to record it from now on," DelMazio said with a laugh.  "These kids are really something."

The video for the championship walk-off is above.  The link to the game one winner is here and game two, you can click here.  The Babe Ruth World Series begins Friday, Aug. 20, in Monticello, Ark.  All videos courtesy of Phil DelMazio.
