Stamford 15s Rally for Ruth Win

Stamford won its second straight game in dramatic fashion to advance to the winners bracket final in the Babe Ruth 15-year-old New England Regional in Quincy, Mass. Kyle DiVico's single to center scored Luis Lopez with the winning run as Stamford nipped Cranston, R.I., 4-3, in nine innings Saturday in Cranston, R.I. Stamford won its first game of the tournament with a walk-off, two-out, two-run double by Jeff Cortese to beat Portland, Maine.

Stamford plays the winner of Saturday night's game between Plymouth, Mass., and Manchester, N.H., Sunday at 2 p.m. in the winners bracket final. The loser drops into the losers bracket.

Lopez started the winning rally by getting hit by a pitch. Greg Haijar reached safely when Cranston misplayed a sacrifice bunt. Greg Delmazio's sacrifice was also mishandled, and DiVico followed with his game-winning single.

Stamford trailed 3-1 in the sixth. An RBI single by DiVico and James Mattimore's RBI double tied the game. Cranston took a 3-0 early in the contest. Shawn Crowell allowed three unearned runs for Stamford before yielding to Lopez in the sixth, who got out of a no-out, first and second jam without allowing a run. Lopez pitched the remainder of the game.
