STAMFORD, Conn. -- Carpentry Unlimited topped Clairol, 2-0, in the Springdale Little League Majors Divison. Matt Tiplady picked up the win for Carpentry (2-0 on the season) with four innings of no-hit relief in which he struck out 10 and walked none.
Starter Joey Price took the hard-luck loss for Clairol (0-2), surrendering just four hits and striking out seven over four innings. Jelani Jackson struck out two in his one scoreless inning of relief. Carpentry scored in the first when Matt Doyle singled to left to drive in a runner from second. Matt Rubino knocked in the game’s other run with two-out hit to drive in Tiplady, who had doubled.
Carpentry second baseman Patrick Teasdale helped preserve the shutout with a play up the middle to stop a single from rolling into the outfield with Clairol runners on.
Price had two singles for Clairol while Ben Servedio added a single and rookie Jay Daniel got his first hit of the year. Boot Camp 6, Amercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance 4: Starter A.J Rakoczy pitched three innings of no-hit ball for Abercrombie (0-2) with sparkling defense from Chase Senecal and John Fahan to protect the initial lead provided by Andrea O'Connor, who hit a long triple to left, and additional blows by Rakoczy and Senecal. Boot Camp (2-0) came back thanks to timely hitting by Ryan Lionetti and Jason Marchese. Robert Smeriglio pitched three scoreless innings of relief to preserve the win while Ethan Davis and Ben Nash supported him on defense. AAA Division: OneVac, 6, Mulberry 6: The game was halted by lightning and will be resumed at a later date. OneVac’s Jay Nieves and Mulberry’s Ameer Theodore contributed fine pitching performances. The Mulberry hitting attack featured a homer and double by Alex Lanzillotti, who had five RBIs, and a home run by Daniel Maloney. Aiden Nestor scored two runs for the team. Nieves homered twice and drove in four for OneVac; Anthony Lowe doubled, singled and scored twice; and Kyle Bancroft and Daniel Vetti each singled and scored for the team. Mulberry’s Peter Passaro and OneVac’s Kyle Bancroft contributed on defense. U.S. Computer, P2 Telecom tie: Lightning put on hold a potential U.S. Computer Connection comeback against P2 Telecom when weather forced the game’s suspension with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the third in the teams’ April 10 opener. The game will resume at a later date. Before the lightning, thunder struck off the bat of P2’s Harold Alvarez when he brought in four runs with a deep drive to right in the first. Michael Iorfino went two for two and knocked in a run for P2 while Luke Noonan added a hit and an RBI. Seth Patchett tossed a scoreless inning for P2. A disciplined approach at the plate aided the US Computer comeback, which was sparked by singles from Casey Ciocci and Aiden Neigler. Heads up base running by Connor Sullivan kept the team in the game. US Computer starting pitcher James Fahan showed great composure and blanked his opponents in the second. First baseman John Ryan Dowling contributed with fine defensive plays.
