FAIRFIELD, Conn. Stamfords Chris Evans scored a season-high 16 points Monday for Sacred Heart University as it dropped a non-league game to Yale, 73-71, at the Pitt Center. Norwalks Evan Kelley added six points for the Pioneers (5-5).
Yale (6-2) won its fourth straight and rallied after falling behind 20-7. The Bulldogs trailed 44-35 at halftime but opened the final 20 minutes with a 10-2 run. Yale went on to take a 70-65 lead with 4:02 left before the Pioneers made one last rally. Sacred Hearts Shane Gibson (14 points) missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have given the Pioneers the victory.
Evans shot 5-for-7 from the field and added four rebounds, five assists and two steals in 28 strong minutes. Kelley fouled out in just 16 minutes and had two rebounds and two assists. Sacred Heart plays at Holy Cross on Friday.
