Runners Head to the Sound at Riverside Run

Runners can enjoy perhaps the prettiest course in Fairfield County when Saturday's Riverside Run takes off for the 28th time at 8:30 a.m. The USATF-certified route takes runners from the start near the Riverside School on Hendrie Avenue, down to Long Island Sound through the Willowmere section of the area, then climbs back to the finish at the school.

The race, which draws nearly 500 runners, has a neighborhood feel to it, which is expected because it has been organized since its inception by the school's PTA. A large number of the school's students participate in the main race, and even more of the younger ones have joined in since the introduction several years ago of a 1-mile fun run.

Runners can register online until 6 p.m. Friday, or on race day beginning at 7 a.m. at the school. Complete information including directions and a link to online registration is posted on the event website.
