Roxbury Rules County Pool, Again

The Roxbury Swim Club won its 17th Fairfield County Swimming League championship since 1991 on Saturday with a convincing victory at its home pool. Roxbury amassed 962.5 points to out-distance defending champion Rocky Point, which finished with 783.5 points. Long Ridge of Stamford finished third with 723.

"I thought it was a really good team victory,'' coach Rick Lewis said. "We had more swimmers qualify for this meet than we've had before, and we had more make the finals than we expected. A lot of people swam very well."

Oscar Ike won the 12-and-under breaststroke and backstroke for Roxbury. He also swam a leg on the second place medley relay team and was second in the 100-meter individual medley. William Montesi won the 8-and-under backstroke and freestyle. Sean Davey won the 12-under 50 free and butterfly. Corinne Gaccione won the 12-and-under breaststroke, swam the second leg on the victorious 200-meter medley relay and took second in the 12-and-under butterfly. Other individual winners for Roxbury included Alex Li, Alex Ramirez and Jaclyn Conte.

"To have some swimmers who qualified 14th and moved into the top eight,'' Lewis said. "We had a lot of those today."

Long Ridge's Jeff Anderson had a terrific meet as well. He won the 17-and-under 50-meter breaststroke and 100-meter individual medley. He also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay and was fourth in the butterfly. Josth Furth won two events in the 14-and-under division. Long Ridge's other individual winners included Pat Clisham, Gillian Giangrande and Joe Casino.

Newfield finished fifth overall. Its individual winners included Rhyan Brode, with three victories in 10-and-under races, and Nick Handali. Full results are available here.
