Phillies Fall in President's Cup

The Bridgeport Brewers completed a sweep of the Stamford Phillies to win the President's Cup in the Fairfield County Men's Senior Baseball League. Bridgeport defeated Stamford, 7-4, on Saturday to win the best-of-three series, 2-0. Bridgeport won Game 1 on Aug. 21, 9-5.

The President's Cup included the teams that finished in fifth through eighth place during the regular season. Stamford finished fifth and advanced to the President's Cup final by defeating Westport. Bridgeport went 8-12 during the regular season and finished seventh. The Brewers knocked out Wilton before beating Stamford.

In Saturday's game, John Cunningham allowed two earned runs over 8 1/3 innings for the Phillies in taking the loss. Stamford had seven hits.

The Fairfield County Mariners won the league championship by sweeping Monroe in the league finals.
