Hurricanes Fall in State Cup Final

The Stamford under-13 Hurricanes fell to Simsbury, 1-0, in the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association State Cup final Saturday at Newington. It was the third straight year Stamford had reached the championship game.

Stamford played a strong defensive game but could generate only a few shots on goal. The Hurricanes held Simsbury off the board until late in the second half when a Simsbury shot dribbled past Alex Lemekha, who made a nice attempt to stop the shot. She had 15 saves to keep Stamford in the contest with another strong performance.

Stamford will meet Darien in the semifinals of the SouthWest District A Division playoffs Saturday at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield.
