STAMFORD, Conn. Stamford High grad Khairi Fortt is listed as the second-string middle linebacker for the Penn State football team as it prepares for its season opener Saturday against Indiana State.
The switch to the middle is a surprise for Penn State observers, who have seen Fortt play primarily on the outside. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound sophomore is listed behind sophomore Glenn Carson on the Nittany Lions' depth chart.
Fortt played in nine games last year and contributed 17 tackles.
Norwalk's Silas Redd is listed as the first-string running back, and is expected to be the featured player in Penn State's ground attack. He is a sophomore who played at King in Stamford.
Penn State, under legendary coach Joe Paterno, is ranked No. 25 in the country by USA Today. You can follow Redd and Fortt on Penn State footballs website.
