STAMFORD, Conn. A dedication ceremony for the new Andy Robustelli Field at Boyle Stadium kicks off the football weekend Friday in Stamford. It will take place at halftime of the Stamford High vs. Harding game, which begins at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, defending city champion Trinity Catholic hosts Westhill at 1:30 p.m.in an intra-city battle. King also opens its season Saturday with a home game vs. Fieldston of the Bronx.
Stamford, which is coming off a 6-4 season, will look to make an opening statement to the rest of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference in battle with Harding. The Black Knights are led by quarterback Bryan Boderick, a dangerous multi-dimensional athlete who passed for 13 touchdowns and ran for six more last season. Senior captains Matt Corcoran and Tarek Bruce anchor the defense.
The halftime ceremony will honor Robustelli, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member who played at Stamford High. He died earlier this year.
The Trinity-Westhill game also figures to be entertaining. The Crusaders return 12 stars from a team that went 3-7 last season. Junior quarterbacks Danny O'Leary and Cody Zaro are battling for the starting job. Westhill also returns 12 starters from a team that went 1-9 last season under coach Dick Cerone.
