Carpentry Unlimited Tops Clairol In Springdale LL

STAMFORD, Conn. – Results from the opening weekend in the Springdale Little League in Stamford.

Carpentry Unlimited 11,  Clairol 4: Carpentry Unlimited lead off the season defeating defending champion Clairol 11-4. Pitchers Nick Chuckas and Matt Tiplady, who threw four scoreless innings of relief, combined to fan six on just one walk. They were backed by solid defense, led by Jack Hoch and Henry Carucci.

Carpentry hammered 10 hits topped by Chuckas’ four singles and three runs scored. Matt Doyle smacked an extra base hit off the top of the left center fence. Patrick Teasdale, Pete Johnson, Carucci and Tiplady each added singles.

Clairol collected all its runs in the second, led by Joey Price’s two-run homer. Jelani Jackson added two singles for the day while Chris Price, Tyler Gillman and Ben Servedio chipped in with a hit each. Clairol's Dave Marcicakiewics halted an early Carpentry rally with racing outfield catch. Rookie Calvin McKeever made several fine plays at second base.

RMS Construction 8, Instant Replay 4: Starting pitcher Erik Bannister lead RMS Construction to an 8-4 win over Instant Replay Sports in their season opener. Bannister had spot-on control, striking out 10 while allowing only four hits. He also helped his cause by driving in four runs. The RMS offense also featured three hits by Javier Peters, two apiece by Isaac Cadigan and Todd Guttman, and one each by Justin Palmer, Brian Wei and Ethan Wilburn. Fine defensive plays by Guttman, Palmer and rookie Josh Leferman helped secure the victory. Sterling Gregg led the Instant Replay offense with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Anthony Possidento, Ian Macari and Jay Lockwood each added doubles while Matt Jester, Jaden Dawkins, Mike Smolak and Tyler Tuccinardi contributed singles. Boot Camp 11, Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan  & Co., 10: Rookie Ben Nash went four-for-four, scored four runs and drove in two in his season debut as Boot Camp edged past Abercrombie, Burns, McKiernan & Co. Insurance 11-10. Robert Smeriglio, Austin Byrnes and Ryan Lionetti contributed multi-hit games for Boot Camp.

Adrian Nunez and John Fahan both had multiple-hit games for Abercrombie while solid pitching by Matt Eldredge helped keep the game close until the end.
