Bobby V Gets Sunday Night Baseball Gig

Bobby Valentine won't be in a major league dugout next season. He will have plenty to say about the game, however, as an analyst on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball crew. The network announced Wednesday that Valentine will join Dan Shulman and Orel Hershiser as the new team for its Sunday games.

Valentine joined ESPN this year and worked primarily in the studio. He did call games on radio during the playoffs. The new crew replaces Jon Miller and Joe Morgan, who worked together for 21 years as the Sunday team.

"Dan has broad knowledge of the game, an ability to articulate baseball's analytics and a conversational tone which will bring out the best in our analysts," said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, production. "Pairing him with Orel Hershiser, who made great contributions in the Sunday Night Baseball booth last season, and the unique opinions and fresh perspective of Bobby Valentine, will make for a dynamic Sunday Night team."

Stamford native Valentine previously managed the Mets and the Texas Rangers. He also had two stints as the manager of a team in Japan. Valentine's name is frequently mentioned when managerial openings come along. While he won't rule out a return to the dugout, the television gig will allow Valentine to devote significant time to his generous support of community programs and to his downtown restaurant and Bobby V Sports Academy.
