Ballo Makes Move in PGA Qualifying Play

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford golfer Mike Ballo Jr. bounced back in the second round of a PGA Tour qualifying tournament Thursday in Valdosta, Ga. Ballo shot a two-under-par 70 and stands at two-over 146 through 36 holes. He was in 46th place Thursday afternoon with many players still on the course.

Ballo shot an opening round 76 that included eight bogeys and four birdies. In Thursday’s round, he had just two bogeys and made four birdies.

The tournament is a first-stage qualifier being played at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. The top 21 players, plus ties, advance to the second qualifying stage in November. A final qualifying stage is played from Nov. 30-Dec. 5.

With 36 holes left to play, Ballo is just four shots behind players who are tied for 21st, the final qualifying position. The third round will be played Friday, and the fourth round is scheduled for Saturday.

Ballo is a former standout golfer at Trinity Catholic and St. John’s. He plays out of Woodway Country Club in Darien, where his father, Mike Sr., was the club's long-time head professional. For more information on the tournament, visit the PGA Tour qualifying site.
