Area Women Fall Short at Mid-Am

Stamford's Debbie Johnson and Greenwich's Deb Jamgochian finished tied after two rounds of stroke play at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship. Unfortunately, neither made the cut to advance to the match play portion of the tournament for women amateurs 25 and over.

Johnson and Jamgochian finished with 36-hole totals of 12-over-par 171. The last qualifying score in the tournament at Wichita Country Club in Kansas was 162. Monroe's Daria Cummings was the only other Connecticut woman in the field. She shot 169 and also failed to advance.

Johnson and Jamgochian shot identical rounds, 87 and 84. It was the first Mid-Am tournament for Johnson. Jamgochian will turn her focus to the U.S. Women's Senior Amateur. That tournament begins Oct. 7 at Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, Fla.
