UConn Proposes Hefty Increases In Tuition

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The University of Connecticut is proposing a hefty increase in tuition — spread over four years — that would cost students thousands of dollars more per year, according to the Hartford Courant.

The proposal, announced Tuesday, would ultimately be an increase of about $3,000 per year for in-state students and $4,000 for out-of-state students, the Courant said.

The tuition increases would occur in stages, going from the current $10,524 for in-state students to $13,799 in the 2019-20 school year and from $32,066 to $36,466 for out-of-state students, according to the story.

The first year's increase would be 6.6 percent and would average about 7 percent for each of the next three years, the Courant said.

The Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the proposed increases at its Dec. 16 meeting, the story said.

The University of Connecticut has more than 30,000 students at six campuses, including one in Stamford.
