Students Escape Harm in Stamford Bus Accident

STAMFORD, Conn. — A school bus on its way to Turn of River Middle School was struck by a skidding car Tuesday morning, but no children were injured, according to Sarah Arnold, public affairs officer for Stamford Public Schools. The accident occurred on Dubois Street.

The bus was not damaged but the car received minor damage. The students made it to school about 20 minutes late and were able to get breakfast before heading off to class, Arnold said.

Despite about a one-inch snowfall Monday night, the schools decided not to delay Tuesday's start. Arnold said school officials, including Interim Superintendent Winifred Hamilton, reviewed weather forecasts, believing roads were in good enough condition Tuesday morning for schools to open on time.

Arnold added that the first weather event of the winter is usually harder for drivers, who build up a tolerance to the conditions as the season goes on.
