STAMFORD, Conn. — In response to concerns of some parents about the possible presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Stamford Public Schools, Superintendent Earl Kim will lead an information session on the issue this weekend.

The free information session will take place Saturday, June 10, at 1pm at Building One Community – The Center for Immigrant Opportunity at 75 Selleck St., Stamford.

Kim's event will be hosted by leaders in Building One Community’s Parents Organized Will Effect Result (POWER) program.

Gov. Dannel Malloy issued a letter to school superintendents in February in response to growing concerns over immigration issues after a presidential executive order about cracking down on undocumented immigrants.

Malloy said the state of Connecticut will protect the rights of all students receiving public education, regardless of their immigration status.

He also advised that school districts institute processes related to ICE activities, recommending that “if an ICE agent approaches a school asking for student information or for access to a student, that agent should be referred to the superintendent’s office or to the office of an appropriate administrator designated by the superintendent” who should then contact the state's attorney.

Kim will speak about Stamford Public School’s plan of action in the event that ICE agents come to schools. He will be available to answer questions and address concerns of attendees.
