Stamford Students Reach for Fitness

Kimberley Holly and about 240 of her schoolmates at Hart Magnet Elementary School got their daily workouts in Wednesday morning. Members of General Electric Asset Management Inc. took their Balance, Exercise and Eating Healthy Fitness Buzz program to the school.

The instructors showed students different ways of staying active without playing sports or taking part in a fitness class. The activities included basic calisthenics, hula hooping and even Zumba, which was a favorite of the students — especially when the instructor played Justin Bieber.

The goal of the program is for the students to continue the activities on their own. “We want them to take the message home to their families and friends,” Chris Linehan, director of institutional communications for GE Asset Management, said as he watched the students exercise.

This is the second year GE Asset Management has run the fitness program in Stamford. Last year, it was held at Julia A. Stark Elementary School. “The students had a lot of fun,” Linehan said of last year’s event.
