Stamford Students Get Up Close Look at the Law

STAMFORD, Conn. — High school students in Stamford recently got a “behind the bench” look at the legal world when they celebrated “Law Day” at Shipman & Goodwin LLP., in Stamford.

In addition to a tour of the Superior Court, the students also engaged in a discussion with some of the firm’s lawyers, paralegals, and administrative staff about their profession, a press release said. The dialogue was mainly about student’s rights in different scenarios, such as free speech versus freedom of expression, cell phone searches and off-campus discipline, the release said.

Law Day is nationally observed May 1 to celebrate a commitment to the law, and is sponsored by Bar Associations, courts, schools and other similar organizations, the release said.

The students came from Stamford High School, Westhill High School and the Academy of Information, Technology and Engineering, the release said.
