STAMFORD, Conn. The schools will hold orientation Friday for students entering prekindergarten, kindergarten, sixth grade and ninth grade, the Stamford Public Schools announced Thursday morning. The orientation day had been in question because some schools lacked power as of Tuesday night after Hurricane Irene.
Thank you for your patience following this storm. We appreciate your flexibility and wish you a wonderful school year, the schools website said. School buses will be in service Friday.
On Tuesday night, superintendent Winifred Hamilton announced that the first day of school for students would be Tuesday, Sept. 6, and orientation would take place Friday only if all schools had regained power by the end of the day Wednesday. The schools were supposed to open Thursday, Sept. 1, with orientation the day before, but Irene knocked out power to the schools, she said Tuesday.
Teachers and staff reported to their assigned buildings Thursday for a professional development day, the schools site said.
