Stamford Principal Primed for New Challenge

Popular Westhill Principal Camille Figluizzi announced she will be leaving her position at the Stamford high school to take a new position in the school system as director of magnet schools.

"My 12 years at Westhill have the happiest of my career, but it's time to take on a new challenge," she said before taking the microphone to give the morning announcements at the high school.

The newly revamped position, recently approved by the Board of Education, will have oversight of all six magnet schools in Stamford and not be encumbered with other duties as her predecessor was.

In October, Figluizzi told the Westhill faculty that she had applied for the new position. A vote by the full Board of Education on Oct. 26 confirmed her appointment. The process of identifying a successor has begun.

"I'm leaving Westhill in a strong, solid position. We have a united community here both academically and socially and we can compete with any high school in the country," Figluizzi said.

She is well prepared for the new position: Her first job as a principal was at Toquam Magnet Elementary and both of her children attended Westover Magnet School.

The other magnet schools in the Stamford system are Rogers International, Hart Elementary, Scofield Middle School and the Academy of Information Technology & Engineering, a high school.
