Stamford Parents Get to Learn to Lead

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford’s Parent Leadership Training Institute is looking to turn parents into advocates for their children, with a program that begins next week.

An all-day retreat will be held on Jan. 21, and there will be workshops every Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the Tandet Center for the next 19 weeks. There is no cost to attend, and the workshops will be held in English.

Participants in the program will make a plan to satisfy a need in their community, the insitute says.

Applications are due on Jan. 18, and are available in the Parent Leadership Training Institute office on the 8th floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd., or by contacting Josephine Fulcher-Anderson, 203 977-5829 or 203 216-2063, or by e-mail

The institute was started by the Connecticut Commission on Children to help residents make changes in their schools, neighborhoods and government, the organization says.
