Skyler Ross is one of 32 students from across the country who has received the Marshall Scholarship. Ross, a lifelong resident of Stamford who graduated from Westhill High School in 2012, will study creative producing at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
"The program appeals to me because of its emphasis on theatrical producing as a creative act through its curatorial role," he wrote in an email. "The program will equip me with the skills to be a strong leader in the professional theater, and after completing the program I hope to become a professional producer."
Named for Secretary of State George C. Marshall, the Marshall Scholarship Programme began in 1953 as a gesture of gratitude to the people of the United States for the assistance that the UK received after World War II under the Marshall Plan. The scholarships offer talented young Americans the chance to study for up to three years at a UK university of their choice.
The Marshall Scholarships continue to serve not only as a living gift from the UK Government to the US for the Marshall Plan, but also as a way to deepen and strengthen the transatlantic relationship through education and cultural exchange.
Ross, a history major, learned about the scholarship from a college friend who had won it last year.
