Stamford Kids To Sing at Lincoln Center

Katherine Breen and the rest of the Stamford High School Madrigals will skip school Friday and head into New York. The 20 students will perform at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center as part of the American Music Salutes concert honoring the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

“At the moment they’re very excited,” Gloria Sinaguglia, the Madrigals’ advisor, said of the students’ feelings about singing at Lincoln Center for Performing Arts.

American Music Salutes invited the Stamford High kids to join students from around the country for the concert, Sinaguglia said. Sinaguglia said she accepted because it would be a great experience for the students.

With the concert just two days off, Sinaguglia felt the students were just about ready to hit the stage in the Big Apple. There is one piece they need to work on, but there is still enough rehearsal time, the teacher said.

“After the four-hour rehearsal tomorrow they will be ready to go,” she said. The student will rehearse with the other groups performing Friday.

Sinaguglia and the Madrigals will travel to the city with several parents who offered to serve as chaperones. Sinaguglia said she is grateful to the school’s administration for supporting the Madrigals’ trip.

The Madrigals are an a cappella group for which students  must audition for. They rehearse once a week and perform with and without the concert choir. Sinaguglia also offers an elective class members can take.
