Stamford Kids Raise Cancer Research Money

STAMFORD, Conn. — Students, teachers, and parents of Rogers International School walked, ran, and danced around Cove Island Park to help raise money for the American Cancer Society during its 9th Annual Turtle Trot.

The students decided to raise money for cancer research after two of the school’s teachers recently died from the disease, Principal Cathleen Cummings said. Money was raised through the sale of plastic bracelets honoring the teachers’ memories.

Friday’s event was the culmination for Roger’s Turtle Trot Spirit Week to close out the Destination Fitness program for this school year, a release said. Other events included bringing in a non-perishable item for the Rogers’ food pantry, a sneaker and cleat drive, and the second annual Health and Wellness Fair that took place Thursday evening.

Thursday’s event included a pasta dinner and many local vendors set up to educate people about all different areas of health and wellness.
