Stamford Kids Celebrate Science at Annual Fair

STAMFORD, Conn. — Did you know there was such a thing as a liquid magnet? If you had been at Holy Spirit School in Stamford Wednesday morning for the school's annual Science Fair you would have seen one in action.

“I thought this would be a lot of fun,” said fifth-grader Mary Ostaszewski, who showed off her liquid magnet, making it "dance" and toward other magnets.

The younger grades had class-wide presentations for their parents that demonstrated the knowledge they have acquired. The pre-kindergarten class sang songs about their colors. Dressed in wings and antennae, the kindergartners gave facts about butterflies and their life cycles. The first-graders discussed shadow and light, with silhouettes behind them, and the second-graders each gave a short description of their favorite dinosaurs.

The older students did individual projects and had written reports and poster boards describing their research and findings. The projects included a model volcano, the liquid magnet and recycling.
