Public Schools In Stamford May Open Wednesday

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford Public Schools are expected to open Wednesday, a statement from Mayor Michael Pavia said.

The schools have been closed since Oct. 29 due to Hurricane Sandy and will be closed Tuesday because of Election Day.

While the schools may open Wednesday, parents of children who take the bus are urged to use caution as debris still may be on the sidewalks, the statement said.

The city will be collecting storm debris starting on Nov. 12 in North Stamford and working south. For more information contact the Citizen’s Service Center at 203-977-4140.

North Stamford residents can use the Scofieldtown Yard to dispose of spoiled food from Nov. 6 through Nov. 10, the release said.

The Stamford YMCA, 909 Washington Blvd., will allow people to take showers from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. People should bring photo identification and their own toiletries and towels.

Residents and businesses looking to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency should call 800-621-FEMA (3362) or visit the agency’s website. The agency has set up a Disaster Recovery Center at the Western Greenwich Civic Center at 449 Pemberwick Road, Greenwich. It is open Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
