Incumbents Lead Stamford BOE Races Early Wednesday

STAMFORD, Conn. — Republicans Jerry Pia and Lorraine Olson had won re-election to their Board of Education seats and Democrat Polly Rauh was leading her race with 21 of 22 districts reporting early Wednesday morning.

Democratic challenger Dolores Burgess had not conceded as of 1 a.m., Wednesday. Republican challenger Jonathon Hoch appeared to have lost. 

Republican Jerry Pia was running for a second term since rejoining the board in 2010. He previously served from 1980 through 1998. The lifelong Stamford resident is executive director of the Glenbrook Community Center.

Republican Lorraine Olson was also seeking a second term on the school board. Olson, 58, is a lifelong Stamford resident and works as a school nurse.

Rauh, current board president, was also seeking a second term. She is a retired teacher and principal in Stamford.

Burgess is a retired mother of one and helps out as a tutor at Stamford High School. She is a board member of the NAACP.

Hoch was denied a first term on the board. The father of two and youth coach works as the chief community officer at Domus.
