Hundreds Attend Tom Brokaw Appearance in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — News anchor Tom Brokaw made his way to Stamford last week to help raise funds for the citywide scholarship fund Stamford Dollars for Scholars.

Over 870 people made their way to the Palace Theatre to hear Brokaw speak about his experience as a newscaster and his recent book, “The Time of Our Lives and the Greatest Generation.” He also answered questions from the audience via text message.

The proceeds from “An Evening with Tom Brokaw,” will help fund up to 10 scholarships for Stamford students graduating in 2012. The organization, which was formed in August, just started accepting applications for its first year of scholarships.

“So much money is not given away because kids don’t apply,” Tony D’Amelio , co-President of the organization, said in an e-mail urging students in the area to apply.

Students living in or attending high school in Stamford can apply for the awards. Applications can only be found online at the “Students & Parents” page on the organization’s website.
