Davenport Ridge is one of only six schools statewide recognized with this award.
The award is part of the Connecticut Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Model Schools Project. The purpose of the project is to recognize schools for successfully implementing school-wide systems for PBIS.
Criteria for recognition are based on effective implementation of key features as outlined by the National Technical Assistance Center on PBIS, and are consistent with the outcomes of Connecticut’s School-wide PBIS Training Series.
According to SERC, a Banner School must meet the criteria of implementing PBIS with fidelity, as measured by: the Schoolwide Evaluation Tool, a decrease in office discipline referrals, the effective use of data and active demonstration participation.
“We were very excited and honored to earn the Banner School Award,” said Davenport Ridge Principal Michael Pisseri. “The award is particularly meaningful because it is aligned with, and validates, the school climate work that Davenport Ridge has been focusing on for the past five years.”
Each Banner School receives a banner and certificate, is highlighted at statewide events and featured on the SERC website and in PBIS Publications.
Davenport Ridge was praised in a recent visit by a SERC evaluation team for its PBIS model and platform, called “SOAR to Success.” SOAR is an acronym for safety first, outstanding effort, accept responsibility and respect for all.
According to Pisseri, Davenport Ridge staff and students recognize SOAR every day in priority areas such as the cafeteria, school bus, classroom, bathroom, playground and hallway.
