Contest Winnings Elate Stamford Principal

STAMFORD, Conn. - Principal Mark Bonasera had a grin from ear-to-ear when he saw Jeff Reinhardt of Main Street Connect walk into Julia A. Stark Elementary school in Stamford Friday.

“I always wanted to get a big check,” the principal said laughing as he accepted the check with Parent Faculty Organization President Stephanie O’Shea.

Main Street Connect, parent company of TheDailyStamford.com, presented a $500 check to the Parent Faculty Organization as a result of Stark receiving more than 500 votes in the Better Schools Bonanza contest. The company will give $10,000 to parent-organization of the school that gets the most votes and $1,000 to the second place finisher. Each school that gets 500 votes will receive $500.

Parents will put the money from the contest towards transportation for school field trips, O’Shea said. With each grade at the school taking two field trips apiece, the cost racks up, she said.

“We pretty much pay for anything extra in the school,” O’Shea said of the commitment the Parent Faculty Organization makes to Stark and its students.
