“These are the people who possess firearms legally they use them for hobbies like hunting and shooting at the range. Now current and future gun owners are limited from using the gun of their choice. Banning guns in Connecticut will take them out of the hands of law abiding citizens but not out of the hands of criminals,” Molgano, R-144, said in the release.
Connecticut had the fourth strictest gun laws in the country when Adam Lanza shot and killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School and the laws did not stop him, and more laws does not mean less crime, he said in the release said.
There were aspects of the bill he was in favor for and would have supported including: school safety measures, proper care for mental health patients, strict background checks, a stronger registration process for gun, and the increased penalties for illegal trafficking and possession, the release said.
“It was unfortunate for me to be put in a position where I supported certain measures but because the components of school safety and, mental health, and gun control were all combined I was limited to an ‘all or none’ vote –I can’t support a bill that will violate a person’s rights under our Constitution,” Molgano said in the release.
