STAMFORD, Conn. — Residents will have a chance to sound off on the proposed plan to bring a boatyard back to Stamford on Tuesday night with the city’s Planning Board.

Earlier this year, Mayor Michael Pavia announced an agreement with Building and Land Technology to bring Bridgewater Associates to Stamford’s South End and set aside land for a boatyard at 205 Magee Ave. The boatyard would be on 5 to 6 acres of land and offer the same services as Brewer Yacht Haven, which was located on 14 acres of land where Bridgewater expects to move.

As part of the agreement, the developing firm agreed to provide the city with $5 million in public improvements for 2.4 acres of city-owned land at the Magee Avenue location. One of the improvements would be a new and larger animal shelter.

“Our homeless community pets have been waiting too long for a larger, safer and modern new shelter. In a perfect world, we would have preferred a new location, serene setting and more space, but reality is about compromise and our existing shelter and the resident pets cannot wait for a perfect world. And the City of Stamford has not been able to otherwise secure full capital funding to build a new shelter,” Outreach to Pets In Need, an organization that assists the shelter, said in a newsletter.

On Aug. 1, the state Department of Environmental and Energy Protection approved the exemptions needed for construction of Bridgewater’s proposed Stamford campus. Certified flood management exemptions were needed for the project.

The board met with city officials for site tours of the properties Friday to become familiar with the proposed project.

The Planning Board will hold the hearing in the cafeteria on the fourth floor of the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Blvd. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. or after the regular meeting it has scheduled for 6 p.m.
