Stamford voters chose Obama over Gov. Mitt Romney, 29,623 to 17,473, and Murphy over Republican Linda McMahon, 27,280 to 17,273. Both also won their races easily, with several television channels giving the election to Obama by 11 p.m. and the Senate race was called for Murphy by 8:30 p.m.

“A victory for women everywhere,” Ellen Zimmer Lewis commented on The Stamford Daily Voice’s Facebook page of Obama’s re-election.

Jeff Curtis Jr., also commented on the president defeating Romney, said, “It shows that some of America is willing to move forward regardless of what party, religion, race or gender. We need to convince the rest of America that only by putting aside our petty differences can we change as a nation.”

On Murphy’s election to the Senate, readers said:
