“I’m thrilled to have Senator Rubio as the keynote speaker for our annual state party dinner,” said Jerry Labriola Jr., Republican state chairman. “Senator Rubio is a dynamic leader with a record of accomplishment, and is an articulate advocate for free market, limited government policies. He is one of the Republican Party’s leading contenders for the White House in 2016, and we are honored to have him headline our event.
“I believe Senator Rubio’s message about building a new American century will resonate with Connecticut residents, especially as we watch Governor [Dannel] Malloy lose interest in Connecticut’s future. Senator Rubio’s optimistic and positive vision for America stands in stark contrast to Barack Obama’s six long years of government overreach and policies which have weakened America both militarily and economically."
Rubio, 43, has served as the U.S. senator from Florida since 2010. Before that, he served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. He announced his candidacy for president on April 13.
The Prescott Bush Awards Dinner, named for the former U.S. senator from Greenwich who was the father President George H.W. Bush and grandfather of President George W. Bush, is the Connecticut Republican Party’s largest annual event and has featured some of the party’s most prominent national leaders over the years.
